Connecticut Moves to Prohibit Sweepstakes Gaming with Senate Approval (Casino News Daily)

Connecticut’s Senate General Law Committee has unanimously passed Senate Bill 1235 (SB 1235), a bill aimed at banning sweepstakes gaming in the state. The bill, introduced at the request of the Department of Consumer Protection, seeks to close loopholes that have allowed unregulated gambling platforms to operate as promotional sweepstakes. The legislation prohibits businesses from running sweepstakes or promotional contests that resemble real-money casino games or sports betting, and also bans ticket resale services and intermediaries for lottery sales. Violations of the law could result in criminal charges, including a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of $5,000.
