Resurrecting Riches: Slot Overview

If you were given the choice to relive your entire life all over again for eternity, repeating all the highs, lows, and mids, would that trigger waves of happiness or dread? Or something in between those extremes? Depending on the interpretation, Frederick Nietzsche’s response to eternal occurrence was as a sort of affirmation of life test and a gauge as to how well someone has been able to build a life which is worth infinitely repeating. Let’s park that line of thought for now, though and take a look not at recurrence but resurrection. The slot is Resurrecting Riches, and its maker, Pragmatic Play, has taken the opportunity to build a Money symbol collection game themed with phoenixes.

So the phoenix imagery represents the ‘Resurrecting’ part of the title, and the mountains of gold coins on the screen represent the ‘Riches’ part. A real dragon’s hoard of a location hosts the game, where loot flows around a 6×3 grid. It’s a pretty standard view that gets the point of the game across just fine, but it didn’t trigger much ‘get a load of this’ excitement.

Players are tasked with choosing a stake of 20 c to $/€240 per spin before embarking on the search for potential riches, and a bonus buy is available as well for those who’d prefer to skip the base game. A highly volatile math model has been programmed in, producing an RTP of 96.5% at the highest setting, while 729 ways to win are provided for landing winning combinations of 3 to 6 OAK along, beginning from the rightmost reel.

On the payable are 10-A card rank low pays, and 6 gemstones high pays. When hitting a 6 OAK royal win, the payout is 1 to 2 times the bet, while a line of 6 identical premium gem symbols pays 3 to 10 times the bet. There are no wild symbols in the game, but there are Mystery symbols. When Mystery symbols hit, they all transform into the same paying symbol or Money symbol.

Resurrecting Riches: Slot Features

Resurrecting Riches has a Money symbol collect feature, present in the base game and in free spins, with an added shadow, resurrecting element in the bonus round, which can be bought.

Money & Collect Symbols

The Money symbol appears on all reels except the rightmost reel. It hits with a possible value of 1x to 500x the bet or bonus. The Collect symbol appears only on the rightmost reel, and only one can land per spin. When a Collect symbol hits, after line wins have paid, it expands to cover the whole reel and the values of all Money symbols in view are awarded.

Respin Feature

In the base game, when 5 Money symbols hit and no Collect symbol lands, after line wins are paid, the Money symbols remain in view, and the game initiates a respin. Only Money symbols and Collect symbols may land after the respin. If a Collect symbol hits, then the Money symbol values on the reels are paid.

Free Spins

Whenever a Money symbol displaying bonus is collected, the free spins round is triggered, and players randomly get 8, 10, or 12 free spins depending on what is revealed. During the bonus, all Money symbols that hit leave a shadow of themselves behind the symbols in the position they landed on. Each time a Collect symbol lands, after win lines are paid, the Money symbols from behind the symbols return to the front, and their values are awarded. If a new Money symbol lands on a position that has already been highlighted with a shadow, its value is added to the value of the shadow for the remainder of the round. At least one Collect symbol is guaranteed to land during the free spins feature. Free spins cannot be retriggered.

Bonus Buy

Players can trigger the free spins round from the base game by buying it at 80 times the bet. On the triggering spin, a Collect symbol and one Money symbol with the bonus value will land with no other winnings. The highest RTP when doing so is 96.58%.

Resurrecting Riches: Slot Verdict

Whilst okay for what it is, the thought of playing Resurrecting Riches over and over again for eternity induced waves of nausea, presumably failing Nietzsche’s eternal recurrence test. It’s not that it’s a bad game per se, but it did feel like one of those back-of-the-napkin slots which Pragmatic Play is able to pop out in its sleep. At heart, Resurrecting Riches is a basic Money symbol collection game, not exactly a Big Bass Bonanza wannabe, surprisingly, but maybe a stripped-down version of that. To ensure Resurrecting Riches isn’t completely run of the mill, though, Pragmatic Play has added the bonus round shadowing effect to landed Money symbols.

The shadow effect has its moments. Watching values stack up behind regular symbols might be fun for some gamblers, and at least one Collector symbol is guaranteed to land sooner or later in the free spins round to collect whatever values might be there. Resurrecting Riches does not possess huge winning potential, capped at 4,000 times the bet, but that figure doesn’t seem out of place when placed aside everything else the game has to offer. The free spins round is similar in some ways to the one Pragmatic Play put into Treasure Wild, where Money symbol values are added to a pot, which is awarded when wild symbols hit. The two games actually look quite similar, as well, so perhaps some crossover occurred when the studio was designing Resurrecting Riches.

To wrap things up, Resurrecting Riches isn’t the worst Money symbol collecting game to ever hit the market, but it’s not a very thrilling one either. The shadow aspect to the free spins round might be enough to convince curious collectors to have a look, but whether it’s strong enough to convince them to stick around medium to long term is a pertinent question.
